Great Day at the Farmers Market

Muscle Powered’s Kelly Clark recently worked the Bicycle Valet at the 3rd Street Farmers Market. Here’s what she had to say…

Wow! We were full up most of the day at the Farmer’s Market today. A couple of families showed up, we signed up five memberships (mostly renewals) and received $16 in tips! The kids love the USE YOUR FEET pins and stickers.

Below is the picture John Aragon took at one point. The rack fully filled up three or four times!

John has a great tan from his recent bike trip to UTAH! And of course for me it was a gabfest about safety and encouraging everyone to come to our MEMBERSHIP PICNIC ON JULY 16! From 3-5:30 p.m. Donn and I will lead a short walk/mtn bike ride to Mexican Ditch. From 5:30-7 fun and games and grilling on the barbeque at the RED HOUSE at SILVER SADDLE RANCH. Hope it is cool in the shade! Croquet and volley ball (maybe-still need a good net, mine is bad!)

It was lots of fun to see people enjoying the scene.

Bike Valet September 19

FarmersMarket2The first part of the morning, the bike valet at Carson City Farmers Market was pretty empty and I was about to pack it up and go home, when suddenly a flurry of people showed up, most of them after participating in the freeway bike/run/walk event. At one point we had 17 bikes parked. We got two new memberships, and had several good conversations. – Dan

Just a reminder that Muscle Powered is down at the 3rd Street Farmers Market every Saturday morning from 9AM – 1PM. Ride down for some fresh, local produce. Shop while we watch your bike! It’s a fun way to support local growers and bicycling in Carson City.

Bicycle Valet at the Farmers Market

Back again due to popular demand, Muscle Powered will be doing a Bicycle Valet at the 3rd Street Farmers Market every Saturday from June 27th until October 3rd, 9 AM – 1 PM. Muscle Powered will have volunteers throughout the summer to park and watch your bike while you roam the market.

Ride down to the Farmers Market for fresh, local produce, and mingle with your fellow citizens. It makes a nice destination for an easy Saturday morning ride. In addition to the Farmers Market, Downtown Carson City and local businesses have organized plenty of other activities along Curry Street as well. Exploring the area on bicycle is the best way to check everything out without the hassle of trying to park your car.

Although we have the valet covered, Muscle Powered is still seeking volunteers to help. We need people to double up, so the primary valet has time for a break. Only 1 or 2 hours on a Saturday is what we need! If you’re interested, send me an email (see the contact tab above).

Farmers Market Bicycle Valet a Success

Jeff and I had a great time down at the farmer’s market this morning. We guarded about 25 or 30 bikes throughout the event, gave out lots of bike maps, and talked to lots of nice people. I think it was the best outreach event we’ve done since bike-to-work week (and not nearly the effort!)

It worked out so well, in fact, that we want to do it again – and people asked if we were going to be back next week. The problem is, I’ll be out of town, and it’s Charlie Moser’s 8th birthday next Saturday, so Jeff can’t be there either.

Could anyone else volunteer 4 hours next Saturday? It’s really easy. All the tabling stuff – maps, water bottles, brochures, banner etc – are in a couple boxes that Jeff has now. We could probably borrow his shade structure (ok, Jeff?) Tammy W. brings a bike rack and it’s there already. All anyone would have to bring would be a table and chairs, rope to rope off the valet area and yourselves – and pick up the other tabling stuff from Jeff, who has it because he’s going to use it at the Clif Bar event this Weds. Please consider it – it actually was a lot of fun…

Bicycle Valet at the Downtown Farmers Market

Have you been to the Downtown Farmers Market yet? If not, you’re missing out! It’s a great place to find high quality locally grown food, hang out with friends, and more. If you have been, you’ve probably noticed a good number of bicycles. They’re everywhere. Across the street, locked to trees, in the bike rack, down the next street… Wouldn’t it be nice to have an easy, secure place to keep your bicycle?

Muscle Powered is working with Tammy Westergard of Downtown Carson City to encourage more bicycle involvement in these downtown events. This Saturday, August 9th, Muscle Powered is going to have a Bicycle Valet setup at the Farmers Market!

We’re still working out the final details, but Muscle Powered is going to setup a secure bike area right next to the market. We’ll be there under our shade structure to watch the bikes, talk to folks about bicycling in Carson, hand out Carson City Bicycle Route Maps, and more.
