Bicycle Racks in Carson City

One of the things that holds me back from running errands on bicycle, is the uncertainty of secure bicycle parking at the destination. I’ve been to many businesses around town several times, but most of the time I forget to take notice if there is secure bicycle parking.

Muscle Powered’s Dan Allison has created a Carson City Bicycle Rack Database to help take the guess work out of bicycle rack availability! I was curious about two locations I like to go, Safeway and Trader Joe’s. I found both easily in the database, with pictures of the rack location. This resource will definitely help me with my goal of using the bicycle more for everyday errands.

The Carson City Bicycle Rack Database can be accessed HERE or just follow the link on the Muscle Powered Resources Page. The database is an ongoing project, so give Dan your feedback when visiting the database.

  1. All the yellow Muscle Powered bicycle racks have been installed or are due to be installed. I’m not certain what the plans are for future racks at this time.

  2. The Muscle Powered racks were manufactured locally, but similar racks are available from commercial bike rack companies, such as Dero (http://www.dero.com/products/bike_bike_rack/bike_bike_rack.html) at about $400 plus shipping. The MP racks were partly paid for by Muscle Powered members, but also through significant donations from individuals and organizations. If you look at one of the yellow racks, you’ll see a donation plate affixed. Though Muscle Powered is not actively pursuing new Muscle Powered yellow bike racks, I’m sure they would be willing to work with businesses, agencies, or donors interested in more racks. The high visibility and attractive racks certainly make bicyclists feel more welcome wherever they are installed.

  3. I own Straw Hat Pizza in Carson City and I am relocating my store in a terrific neighborhood shopping center, next to Sak N Save. I am interested in sponsoring a muscle powered bike rack in front of my store.
    Thank you
