I’m compiling a list of drain grates that are hazardous because they have slots parallel to the direction of travel, so that they can trap bicycle wheels and cause at minimum bicycle damage and at maximum fatalities. Please take a look at the Drain Grate page on Carson Bicycle Resources. I’d really appreciate your help in locating and reporting additional hazardous drain grates.

  1. Seven drain grates have been repaired: four at Washington St and Mountain St, one on Roop St near Fairview Dr, one on Musser St near Stewart St, and one on Fairview Dr eastbound near Saliman Rd. These are the most hazardous ones that are within bike lanes or on commonly used bike routes. A number of other grates have yet to be repaired.
