Trash Mobs are a grass-roots community effort to keep the walkways and bike paths around Carson City free of littler. For just one hour (8-9 am) on the third Saturday of each month, Muscle Powered holds the events at various locations around town. Volunteers, who are supplied with work gloves and trash bags by Muscle Powered staff, remove litter from areas often used by citizens of Carson City for recreational purposes such as walking, jogging, or cycling.
For the month of April, Muscle Powered’s volunteers are returning to a familiar spot. The Carson Freeway Multi-Use Trail is a popular location for both cyclists and pedestrians. The trail provides a safe route for non-motorized transportation, connecting pedestrians and cyclists with several businesses in the area. In order to keep Carson City clean and beautiful, Muscle Powered is scheduling a Trash Mob along the multi-use trail near the site where College Parkway intersects the I-580 overpass. This location has seen two previous Trash Mobs in the past year, and will most likely continue to be a frequent location for cleanup efforts due to the constant presence of litter that collects along the fence line next to the path.
Volunteers should meet in the parking lot between Dotty’s Casino and US Bank at 8:00 am on Saturday, April 16th .(Click on the map above to open Google Maps.) Work gloves, trash bags, and “pickers” will be passed out and cleanup efforts will go for an hour as the group cleans up the area along the paved path. Anyone who wishes to help out is invited to participate. The Trash Mob is only one hour in length to minimized the impact on the weekend schedules of busy individuals. Give back to your community by volunteering. Join Muscle Powered in helping to keep Carson City beautiful.
