The “No Zombie Texting” educational video contest is a program to create a youth oriented safety video on the dangers of texting and driving. Muscle Powered will host a competition which will be open to all high school students in Carson City to create a 30 second Public Service Announcement video on the dangers of texting and driving, especially as it relates to the dangers posed to bicyclists and pedestrians . The program will support bike/ped safety education by creating a visual reminder of the problems of “zombie” driving; that is driving without paying attention and driving while texting. Muscle Powered representatives will work with and through the Carson High School graphic art program to encourage participation, provide administrative oversight, including an application with safety information resources and a panel of experts to evaluate videos, and encourage competition with a $750 first prize, $500 second prize, and a $250 third prize for the top three videos. Outreach safety day at the school will be organized including video viewing, and presentation of awards.
